MineNews 05 Bersham Colliery 25 Years A big thank you goes to all
who attended the event at Bersham Colliery on Fri. 16Th Dec.
We had 70+ people sign a guest book to record that they had been there, for posterity. Not bad considering that it was a work day & just before Christmas. More coal was mined there yesterday than there ever was prior to 1986.
Unfortunately the weather was horrific although someone said that the snow during the service added to the atmosphere. A good time was had by all & it has been requested that we repeat it again in 5 years time. The Mayor & Mayoress attended together with Susan Elan Jones MP, Cllr Aled Roberts AM, Cllr Bob Dutton, our very own Cllr's Phil Wynn & Ann Hett, Steve Grenter (Heritage Services Manager) as well as Mike Killett & Thomas Smyth (Glenside Bersham). If anyone has been missed or misrepresented then please accept my apologies. The Reverend Gary Windom & Reverend Matthew Burns both of Rhostyllen took the service at 11.00am at the Pit Head. We had a gazebo up to keep the worst of the snow off the dignitaries. Wrexham County Borough Council kindly put on a spread and tea, coffee & hot chocolate was available for those who wanted it.
Raymond Lloyd, Keith Evans & Alan Jones spoke on live Radio Wales for the Good Morning Wales programme & Dennis Owens was photographed for the Peoples Collection after talking to Aled on the phone last week, as well as being interviewed in Cymae for the BBC (could be BBC 2) & our Chairman was interviewed as well. Photographer's from the local media were there in force too so there might be something in the papers next week. Check out this link. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-north-east-wales-16214803 |
Gresford Disaster reports The links below give a factual account of the
disaster from the time. Documents are Working plans of the disaster area. A contemporary report of the accident. A first hand commentary from the captain of one of
the rescue brigades and a list of the deceased. We suggest printing off the plans which will allow
you to follow the descriptions. One
of the aims of the trust is to visit local schools where we can give a
presentation about working life & conditions in the coal mines. Our
Ex-miners can adapt their talk to your requirements & age of pupils. For more information & to book a

Bersham No 2 Winding Engine House North Wales Miners Association Trust are now to be allowed limited, supervised, access to the building & one of the first jobs will be to repair the top step. Our Photographer, Dawn has taken some before photograph's. Stuart Tomlins has offered to repair the top step to the Engine House to make it safe. He repaired some of the steps 12 years ago which have stood the test of time very well. We can't stress how important it is for us to be allowed this access. We need to keep up a very good working relationship with the Museum & Heritage services at all costs. Situations
Vacant There are a number of situations vacant. Our immediate needs are for a treasurer, press liaison officer & someone to help with grant applications. Computer literacy would be helpful but not essential. Remuneration is £0 pro rata.
